Dav Thomas

There are few photographers that challenge themselves as much as Dav Thomas. Not content to reproduce the same compositions seen in all of the photography magazines, Dav looks for the edges of things; The places where beauty and harmony do not usually reveal themselves, areas where photographers such as Jan Tove, Paul Wakefield and Andrew Nadolski have shown have such potential if handled just right. This approach, influenced by his experience as a Professional graphic designer, has developed a critical eye for composition and has been complemented by his knowledge of how different films complement subjects; using Kodak Ektar and Fuji Astia for increased contrast handling and reduced saturation and Kodak Portra for a smooth extended tonal range. Dav also brings a great deal of experience in scanning, printing and exhibiting work, recently working with Charlie Waite and Pete Bridgwood to put on one of the biggest exhibitions of landscape photography in the UK at Southwell Minster.

Tim Parkin

Leaving no stone unturned, Tim Parkin's journey into large format photography has been intensive to say the least. His website and blog have become well recognised as one of the primary sources of information about landscape and large format photography in the UK and workshop clients will have access to expanded versions of these resources.

Although drawing inspiration from photographers such as Paul Wakefield, Eliot Porter, Joe Cornish, Christopher Burkett and David Ward, Tim has tried to combine his design skills with an 'intimate vista' approach to composition. Some people say that composition cannot be taught but Tim hopes to bring a structured approach to the basics of composition, helping to understand how people read pictures and building a core grammar of landscape photography composition.
