“I completed a one-day workshop with Dav and Tim in November 2010 and up until that point I'd been mostly self-taught - while I felt I'd made good progress, I'd reached something of a plateau. The workshop helped not only breathe new life into my thought processes - both in image making and post production - but also encouraged me to work even harder to make good photos out in the field. It took me out of my comfort zone and provided a refreshing take on the process of working a photograph to completion - it's definitely helped raise the quality of my work.”
Tim Smalley 2011

This workshop is aimed at

Landscape photographers who want to improve their landscape composition skills and look at the art of landscape photography. Our workshop is aimed at both film and digital photographers who already have a good understanding of how their cameras work.

Basic Itinerary

Both Tim and Dav are passionate about composition and emotion in landscape photography – all too often technique and location are seen as being more important than the art of crafting a photograph. In this workshop we aim to re-address the balance and spend the weekend looking at composition and the finer points of making landscape photos.

We will meet on Saturday morning and after an informal get-to-know we’ll

We will spend Saturday visiting a number of locations in the Peak District and look at how we can use the landscape ‘ingredients’ to make images that reflect our relationship to the landscape. We will look beyond the obvious views and help the workshop participants question their compositions.

Saturday evening will allow us to look at some of the images made that day (sorry film user!) and discuss the making of the photographs. We will also spend some time looking at post processing – a critical part of composition which is often overlooked.

We will continue in the field on Sunday, hopefully the weather will allow for a sunrise start (not compulsory!).

What you need to bring

Outdoor clothing that is suitable for outdoor use. We will be on uneven ground from time to time so good footwear would be useful.

We do not provide camera equipment for this workshop so you must bring your own. We will cover post processing, so if you have a laptop with the software you use for post processing on it please feel free to bring it along – if not, bring along a few digital images you may want us to look at so we can post process them on our machines.
